Day before Thanksgiving

I visited Colorado for a short, three-day trip to spend Thanksgiving with my family. I also got to spend a few hours catching up with one of my best friends from high school, with whom I manage to maintain semi-regular contact.

She's a great lover of the outdoors, and while I wouldn't have thought to suggest going hiking up near the mountains of Colorado in November, we were favored with near-record high temperatures for the duration of my stay, and so the moderate weather was lovely for walking.

There were a couple of wonderful examples through the day where shafts of sunlight would fall across a section of the forest just so as to set certain features aglow while leaving the surroundings in darkness. These bushes illuminated against the dark background of trees looked to me like fireflies or fairly lights.

The light/dark contrast is still striking, but the scene has an entirely different feeling in black and white. Much more sinister and foreboding, than the warm and beguiling air of invitation in the color image!]]> photo Wed, 07 Dec 2011 16:11:04 -0800
